Lake Louise AlbertaLake Louise Alberta, the "Jewel of the Canadian Rockies" is only 57 km (35 miles) from Banff. As Canada's largest ski area, Lake Louise is famous for downhill skiing, but also offers some of the Rockies best hiking and cross-country ski trails.

Known as the Lake of the Little Fishes to the Stoney Indians, in 1884 Lake Louise was named in honor of Princess Louise Caroline Alberta, daughter of Queen Victoria.

The Lake Louise Gondola runs June to September. It is only 4.5 km from the village via Whitehorn Road (See Interactive Map), and offers an excellent view of Lake Louise, Victoria Glacier, and the Great Divide.
